or just put a minimum time period in holding any stock, the way euro options are traded! The SEC could cut down on speculation if they wanted to.

Why have free markets then?

Thanks to culture and capitalism, over-enthusiastic speculation is going to happen.

So it happened, people will pay the price, life in some form will go on. It will happen again.
