Speaking of drilling.. none of you down there probably noted this since it probably hasnt made a big dent in major newspapers.. but your lumber guys and senators involved with them in those states are threatening to again try to penalize Cdn softwood lumber imports by heavily tariffing them if we dont cut back or remove the supposed subsidy we use for them - never mind that international tribunals have ruled in favour of Canada 3 times the past 20 yrs.. once again proving that the USA supports free trade - except when someone else's products are doing better then theres.. but I digress... There is discussion going on that if the US unilaterally penalizes Canadian lumber imports before a trade body can look at the issue again, Canada should instead of backing off, retaliate by hitting where it hurts.. which among other things would involve hiking dramatically the price of gas and oil that we sell to you.. or turning off the spigot completely... the theory goes that this would be nice counter leverage..

of course..the danger to that is lending credence to the "lets not be controlled by foreign nations energy policies" argument and possibly giving the pro-ANWR opponents some more ammo to use... so I'm undecided on whether that should be followed thru or not. Personally.. I just dont see the ANWR drilling issue passing.. so theres no point in stirring the pot.. even if it means that the uncalled for punitive action against our lumber producers goes unanswered... better to retaliate somewhere else and wait for the WTO to vindicate us (again) and let Max Baucus stew
