You know, I was reflecting last night on those who use SI as a platform to promote their commercial stock picking sites ... The ones that come to mind are Teresa Lo, Options Jerry, Anthony@Pacific, and our beloved Jenna. But I see something in common with the first 3 and I don't see in the last: all of those 3 in recent history and further have provided educational information to us independent traders
I speak as a individual here, but recognize that I have bias in my thinking as I am the CTO for IntelligentSpeculator.com. However, not so long ago I was an individual trader just like many here.
IntelligentSpeculator has always been about teaching people to fish. It is not about holding hands, picking, or hyping stocks or any other investment or speculation vehicle.
For many years IntelligentSpeculator has been providing education and community, and for most of its existence, has offered nothing but free services and information, despite the cost of maintaining the various site revisions and dealing with out of pocket expenses and effort.
On IntelligentSpeculator there have never been 'watch lists', 'buy lists', 'trigger lists' or any other such stuff. No stock recommendation whatsoever.
You'll never see any self-congratulatory posts from Teresa anywhere on the Internet because that type of behavior goes against all that we believe in.
An excerpt from ispeculator.com The Intelligent Speculator:
- is a soldier of fortune, who chooses battles that he can win; - strikes when profit is a reasonable expectation; - does not trade for excitement or to satisfy gambling urges; - does not risk life and limb for emotional reasons; - does not need to be a hero, for he knows that most heroes end up dead; - does not need public recognition because he has high self-regard; - does not boast about his achievements because he knows that he's only as good as his last trade; - is a student of the market for life; - observes the market in an unbiased manner; - avoids making broad sweeping statements, especially predictions, about the market; - knows that all opinions are subjective; - respects other people's right to have opinions; - deals only with facts on hand; and, - accepts personal responsibility for losses.
We've always been wholly focused on sharing and teaching sound analysis techniques, trading methodologies and risk management. Have a look through our education section, accessible at no cost to anyone that signs up to our Yahoo group.
