I don't "do" margin myself, but in a market with total cap of about $11.3 Trillions, if indeed the total customers margins is just $200 Billion (1.76% of total cap) it is not excessive. Of some concern should be that the margin as a percentage of market cap is actually higher today than it was last March (the market cap was close to $17.5 Trillion and margin debt at around $290 Billions (or 1.66%). I do not have historical numbers on margin debt as a percentage of market cap, it might be an interesting indicator to look at.
