The thing that annoys me most as I flip through the political arguments here and on other boards and threads is the statement that Gore won the election. He didn't, and no amount of saying he did will make it true.

You are entitled to believe what you want but there are many people who do not believe he won and there is very factual evidence to support that premise.

It was a tie, but under the rules in place at the time, Bush was declared the winner by the most non-partison group we have in this country.

.....which, disappointingly, turned out to be very partisan.

That's good enough for me.

That has to be good enough for everyone; otherwise, anarchy would erupt.

I would have accepted the alternative outcome with an equal amount of cynicism. I hope that this election serves to mobilize people locally at the state level to register voters, change the way elections are held, and ensure accurate voter verification for the next election.

I agree.

Although some media reps seemed more bias towards Bush than Gore, I was actually more focused on how the media played on the fear that we were a leaderless country heading for the abyss. The Reps also played on those fears in order to get their way. But the media had more credibility and by agitating the fear, it encouraged people to rush thru the process without truly completing it. I believe that's why Gore did not ask for a total recount of the FL vote. He was afraid of the outcry that would ensue. Even some of the Dems were getting nervous and pushing Gore to capitulate. In the final analysis, I think we did not believe that our institutions and political system was up to the task.
