I'm pretty sure that short selling by retail investors has been totally negligible in any past bears, but I believe it's quite significant this time because OLB's make it so easy.

My guess is that on a percentage basis, there are not many 'retail' investors engaging in shorting.

Most of these folks can't even bring themselves to sell stock at a loss. How are they going to reconcile themselves with shorting?

Would love some hard facts on this but all I have is anecdotal evidence.
