The IDT / Centaur chip won't even be in production until Sept. The chip is HIGHLY optimized for "consumer" operations based on analysis of common software. Other operations are reported to be SIGNIFICANTLY slower than Intel chips. They are aiming for the low end, the under $1,000 computers. Which is also where Cyrix is aiming, and to a lesser extent, AMD. That part of the market is going to be highly competitive and not too profitable. Intel will probably still have the workstation, higher-end single user, SMP and server markets mostly if not entirely to themselves, and that's where the money will probably be.
