Wayne, I had plans for The Fairgrounds and the LA. Derby, but nothing special at Santa Anita. But, then the betting machines went out at Sam Houston and I didn't get to bet most of the simulcast races I wanted. Sucker ate my voucher for 20 minutes before it clicked on for a second, gave it back and then crapped out again. The real races were delayed by 20 minutes as SHRP tried to figure out where their system had become unplugged.
Anyway, I would have lost on the LA. Derby. I actually had the 8 horse as a second place pick in my exacta, but I wouldn't have had him on top.
I was bullet proof for the first six live races. And I hit one race especially hard, with a win place and a quinella on a 20 to one horse who won over a 12 to one. The 12 to one was an afterthought on my ticket, but I thought the 20 to one was the best horse all the way. Folks just didn't like it for some reason, so I was happy. My main squeeze, who never commends me on my handicapping, mentioned that "we didn't do all that bad tonight." <g> After the sixth race, I won a quinella that didn't pay for my bet and had a bunch of losers/or place takers on win place bets. I didn't give much back, but didn't add to my stash any, either. |
