"I can't believe PC's are ever going to get back to the heady growth days of the past."

I think one of the key points, which is relevant here, is the trend toward hand held computers and/or Palm type devices for wired or wireless Internet access. Often these newer, portable devices contain flash memory to store files and programs. Intel recognized the movement away from PC's to hand held devices and accordingly shifted some of its production capacity from microprocessors for desktop or laptop computers to chips for wireless communication devices and flash memories. Whether Intel can become dominant in these new areas can't be determined immediately. But at least Intel saw the handwriting on the wall and switched to areas with higher potential growth.

The fact that SanDisk is already well established in this growing market for hand held devices ought to improve its future earnings.
