This guy could EASILY be wrong, but he didn't like the signing. The Giants certainly made some good decisions in the OL signings last year, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in terms of talent judgement.

<< Just a hunch, but we're betting that Tennessee defensive end Kenny Holmes, who got a $20 million deal from the Giants, turns out to be one of the truly overpaid players in the market. Holmes plays hard and is solid against the run. But the big-money defensive ends are supposed to get a team double-digit sacks and Holmes has never had more than eight in a season. In fact, Holmes has just 21½ sacks in four seasons. In 1999, Jevon Kearse's rookie season, Holmes never faced double-team blocking and still had just four sacks. Everyone talked about how unmotivated Kearse looked in 2000, but he still posted 11½ sacks after a slow start. Look, you can either rush the quarterback or you can't, and Holmes can't, at least not on a consistent basis. >> |
