GNC, Rite Aid and Drugstore.com Enter Agreement With Nutraceutix Inc. for Calcium D-Glucarate

REDMOND, Wash.--(BW HealthWire)--March 12, 2001--Nutraceutix Inc. (OTC BB: NUTX - news), a leading provider of proven technologies and products for the dietary supplement, over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription drug markets, finalized a licensing agreement with General Nutrition Centers Inc. (NASDAQ: GNCI - news) of Pittsburgh to market patented Calcium D-Glucarate through its own stores, and through Rite Aid Corp. (NYSE: RAD - news; PSE: RAD) of Camp Hill, Pa., and Drugstore.com of Bellevue, Wash., on March 9, 2001.

GNC has recognized Nutraceutix' exclusive license for patented Calcium D-Glucarate. Under the agreement, Nutraceutix will sub-license patented Calcium D-Glucarate to be incorporated into future dietary supplements containing D-Glucarate for pharmacist-recommended vitamins and dietary supplements, which are marketed jointly by GNC, Rite Aid, and Drugstore.com.

Nutraceutix Inc. has acquired the exclusive sub-licensing rights from Biochemix Inc., based in Austin, Texas, to distribute Calcium D-Glucarate and to promote its applications for supporting breast, lung, liver, colon and prostate health in the nutritional supplement market.

Calcium D-Glucarate is the patented form of glucaric acid, which is found naturally in the body, and which supports glucuronidation, a process in which the body detoxifies environmental carcinogens and other potentially harmful toxins. Calcium D-Glucarate has no known side effects.

While glucaric acid is found primarily in fruits, such as apples and grapefruits, and in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage, research indicates that increased levels of Calcium D-Glucarate achieved through supplementation are effective in assisting the body in detoxification.

Researchers at AMC Cancer Research Center recently announced mounting research suggests the beneficial effects of Calcium D-Glucarate towards detoxification. Numerous animal studies conducted at AMC Cancer Research Center and other top research institutions demonstrate that increased levels of Calcium D-Glucarate through supplementation demonstrate greater health benefits.

The research findings of Calcium D-Glucarate have been published in numerous peer-reviewed research journals.

Nutraceutix Inc. possesses proven technologies and products for the nutraceutical industry. In addition to patented ingredients like Calcium D-Glucarate, Nutraceutix provides patented and proprietary technologies like CDT(TM) Controlled Delivery Technology, MDT(TM) Molecular Dispersion Technology, SET(TM) Self Emulsifying Technology and LiveBac® Probiotics.

Nutraceutix technologies provide distinctive supplements with tangible benefits for the consumer and competitive commercial advantages. For more information on Nutraceutix, please call Marcia Rauser at 800/548-3222, or visit www.nutraceutix.com.
