I think a dollar is just a marker. If I charge John $2000 for a divorce and John charges Fred $2000 rent and Fred charges $2000 to build me a fence, I say there are $6000 in circulation but we don't need to ever touch a greenback, we can just exchange credit.

If there is an increase in demand for goods but the supply can't keep pace with the demand, and the demand is inelastic, which means that the people who are demanding it have to have it, like electricity, then the price goes up. But if I can raise my rates and my customers are willing to pay the higher rates, then it doesn't really matter to me, similarly if I have a lot of disposable income I won't care much. If you are on a fixed income, or don't have a lot of disposable income you've got a problem.
