Handspring, Palm to Unveil New Handheld Devices, Cnet Reports
Mountain View, California, March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Handspring Inc., a maker of electronic organizers, is expected Monday to introduce the Visor Edge, a slimmer, smaller, metal-encased handheld device, that has the same memory as the existing Visor Platinum, Cnet News.com reported.
The following week, Palm Inc. is likely to debut two models that add a postage stamp-size expansion slot and are about the size of the current Palm V. The Palm m500 series will come in black-and-white and color screen models that use a lithium-polymer battery.
The new products could drive existing handheld owners to upgrade, Cnet said, citing IDC analyst Kevin Burden. Handspring's devices are based on Palm's popular software for keeping track of addresses and appointments. Handspring's Visor Edge is expected to sell for about $400, Cnet reported.
Palm's black-and-white m500 device is expected to sell for $399, while its color Palm m500 is likely to sell for $449 and uses a new reflective side-lit screen, Cnet reported.
