Engineers may fully understand the minutia of microprocessor technology, but an understanding of markets, market size, and marketing are completely different subject matters.

I predicted on this thread three years ago that Intel's relationship with Rambus was going to be a big disappointment, and I explained exactly why. Is that considered processor minutia in your book of sarcasm?

Intel has been talking up IA-64 for many years now, and have no products to show for it. It might happen, but I don't see that IA-64 has any significant advantage over anybody else. The tool chain alone makes x86 the architecture of choice for the indefinite future.
