Prolifesquad: Let me try to explain this one more time so that even you can understand.

I was asked to do some extra work for the home office. I said yes. I could have said no. I could have said I won't help you out because I will have to perform this work outside of my regular shift. The work assignment was e-mailed to me, and after I left work, I took the printouts home and completed the assignment between 10 p.m. and midnight. Then I hustled the work back to the home office, since they wanted a fast turnaround. Since the work was outside the normal purview of my job duties, I was paid extra ... standard OT scale ... which is time and a half.

In other words, I completed the rush job for corporate. On my own time, outside of my regular shift, and I was compensated accordingly.

What should I have done? Perform the work for free because I'm a nice guy?
