dominated by white christians..... Mix in a few moslems, jews, buddhists, etc., etc., not to mention a few ardent atheists, and the same prayer becomes offensive.
you have identified the problem and i agree...but i can assure you there is no need to surround it with the names of various religions.
have you presumed that i am a white christian?
i have prayed with the book of Islam, the Koran.
i have attended Moslem/Muslim services.
i have rubbed Buddha's belly and tried unsuccessfully to talk some Buddhist monks out of suicide.
i have attended Jewish services several times with a rabid, orthodox rabbi from new jersey. we were close neighbors for a year. he brought his own dishes when eating in my home.
i played handball and drank beer with 2 Catholic priests for many years. i also participated in some special seder meals and holiday services that they sponsored.
in the past year, i have attended Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian services for various reasons.
none of the above objected to my worship, nor did any question my faith or its source...NONE. none expressed any offense (as you suggested) whatsoever with my endeavors.
no, my friend as i said earlier, i respectfully disagree...a very small minority controls this issue. you identified them.
do not misconstrue this...i make no claim to any spirituality. i am simply still living and looking for answers. uw |
