Several times recently I've not been able to access my AOL account. Added to this, we've seen the Nasdaq short-out recently (Friday, I believe). What other bandwidth-related failures have we seen?

In an environment where everyone claims there's an over-abundance, something's wrong if we can't get the service we demand. Where's the hold-up? Storage? Last mile? High-speed switching? We're a long ways from nirvana and we're definitely being fed a crock of silage if we think the build-out is over. Call it a breather, while carriers find money and integrators use up inventory, but until everyone on the globe has reliable bandwidth on demand the revolution isn't over.

All that fiber in the ground has to be lit and it takes a pile of amplifers, transmitters, switches, and so on, to do it.

We're in an enormously volatile time. The old carriers are struggling while newer players are threatening to take their customers with cheaper more efficient services. Old integrators are fighting off the Junipers and Ciena's of the world because they protected their markets and failed to bring out newer systems as quickly as the competition. And old and new VCs alike are on life-support after one of the biggest pot-parties the market has ever seen. They smoked a drug called dot.com greed and some will die of over-dose. Is it any wonder we're reeling.

I'm patient. Those who like to move markets have hyped the downside to excess. Some day they'll hype the upside just as much.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.
