For this market I blame Alan Greenspan, whose job was to prevent a bubble from happening, not blow it up while saying "Bubble? What bubble? No one can tell a bubble while it's happening."

However, this will be a Bush bear market and a Bush recession for one reason only -- they're happening now, and he's President. This may not be a logical reason, but it has always proved a sufficient one.

Maybe, like Reagan, he could get some mileage out of blaming his predecessors for a year or two, but he seems insistent on talking up the recession to push his big tax cut. A mistake I think -- now he will be associated with it for sure.
