Welcome, If you are finding this thread then you must have some interest in WMMVF. Here are some of the recent news releases that I have found from Wal-Mart news.

MEXICO CITY, Mar 12, 2001 (El Economista/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- Same-store sales at Wal-Mart Mexico, the country's largest retailer, in February were up 2.4 percent in real terms from the year-ago period, Mexican financial daily El Economista reported. Wal-Mart Mexico total sales during February were up 12.4 percent from the year-ago period, to 5.7 billion pesos, according to the report. Same-store sales at Wal-Mart competitor Controladora Comercial Mexicana (Comerci), which operates the country's No. 4 supermarket chain, in February were up 0.7 percent in real terms. Comerci recently has been rumored to be poised to sell a majority stake in the company to French-owned retailer Carrefour. Comerci late last week sent a statement to the Mexican Stock Exchange in which it denied the rumors.

MEXICO CITY, Mar 5, 2001 (Reforma/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- Wal-Mart Mexico is Latin America's largest retailer by market capitalization, at roughly 9 billion dollars, according to a report in Mexico City daily Reforma. The U.S.-based company in recent years has come to completely dominate Mexican supermarket sales, Reforma business columnist Alberto Aguilar reported. The combined sales of Mexico's No. 2 and No. 3 supermarket companies -- Gigante and Comercial Mexicana (Comerci) -- are less than Wal-Mart Mexico's, Aguilar reported. Adding the sales of No. 4 supermarket chain Soriana to Gigante's and Comerci's gives a figure roughly equivalent to Wal-Mart's sales. The store's famous "Low Prices Every Day" policy in Mexico has allowed it to swell earnings to the point at which it can afford this year both to pay shareholders a cash dividend and finance a massive expansion plan, Aguilar reported.

MEXICO CITY, Mar 2, 2001 (El Economista/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- Wal-Mart Mexico will spend 120 million pesos to build what will be its 501st store in the country. The store, to be opened in November, will provide jobs for 1,200 workers in the central-northern state of Zacatecas, according to Wal-Mart executives Sergio Cicero Zapata and Jorge Resendiz Ordonez. Cicero and Resendiz said construction of the 33,000-square-meter store, in a new shopping mall in the state capital, will begin on Monday.

MEXICO CITY, Mar 1, 2001 (Reforma/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- Wal-Mart Mexico plans to invest 5 billion pesos during the next 18 months, company directors told investors at a shareholders assembly earlier this week. A total of 4.5 billion pesos will be spent to open 62 new stores and convert 22 Aurrera supermarket stores into Wal-Mart Super Centers. The remaining 500 million pesos will be used to build two distribution centers -- one for Wal-Mart's Sam's Club stores and the other for refrigerated and frozen goods. The 62 new stores will include seven Sam's Club outlets, 15 Aurrera supermarkets, eight Wal-Mart Super Centers, six Superama supermarkets and 22 restaurants. The 5-billion-peso investment program comes hard on the heels of 3.6 billion pesos in investment in fixed assets last year by Wal-Mart, which opened 38 outlets in Mexico, and a 1.27-billion pesos share buyback.

If anyone has any information on how to research stocks on the Mexican exchange please let me know. If I find out anymore information I will post it. Thanks, bbgold :^)
