Greenspan record in Recessions:
I seem to recall that, in the 90-91 recession, Greenspan didn't recognize we were contracting until about January '91. During that recession, his first recession fighting ease came on Dec 18th - at least 4 months after the economy started to contract. He's actually acting more quickly this time. Is he just looking too much at lagging indicators like employment, or does he secretly think a recession now will purge the economy of undesirable excesses built up during the past 10 years?
