Please go ahead and argue it. I would like to know what a union might lobby for other than to give itself more clout in its ongoing duel with employers.

Defined-benefits pensions are close to extinct. Even Uncle Sam moved away from them about a dozen years ago. Yes, it's cheaper for the company to not provide that kind of pension, but saving the company money is not the only reason for not offering them. They're very inefficient and they distort the movement of workers between jobs.
