"We are not captive to anybody," Messman maintained.

Oh I can't wait for some of those guys that put together the Nasdaq site to come into Novell and question every certainty in the Novell lexicon of values.

As to his picking Drew, well he probably had something to do through Safeguard Scientific and his BOD slot with picking Eric but it has been a long time since Novell knew creative from retread as they say.

The company has a stunning string of senior management washouts and an inability to produce hot products from good ideas. Its great at micromanaging every project to death and forcing out of the company those guys with talent however.

But I'm not carping. Messman has a mess on his hands in the way of entrenched Netware centric middle management that cannot execute. Now the company has to respond to customer demands for solutions through a 3800 person strong arm of the company. I just can't imagine the CBT people living with Novell's style of management for very long.

There are going to be shake-ups.
