>>However, this will be a Bush bear market and a Bush recession for one reason only -- they're happening now, and he's President. This may not be a logical reason, but it has always proved a sufficient one.

Absolutely wrong. Your "Being There" analysis doesn't work. The economic decline was evident to all before Clinton left office and the Clinton Bear Market has been around for over a year.

No one blamed FDR for the Great Depression. So much for "Being There".

What made you Dems mad was that Bush and Cheney made clear that the economy was in decline before they took office - and the Dems screamed that Bush shouldn't be telling the truth.

Eight years earlier Clinton entered during a boom and lied, saying it was "the worst economy in 50 years".

The difference this time is that Bush's policies are pro-growth while Clinton's were anti-growth.

>>Maybe, like Reagan, he could get some mileage out of blaming his predecessors for a year or two, but he seems insistent on talking up the recession to push his big tax cut. A mistake I think -- now he will be associated with it for sure.

See, there you go again. Blaming someone for telling the truth about the mess that the Dems left.

Bush was right to make sure that Clinton - and not he - is associated with the Clinton recession and Clinton Bear Market. Last time I looked, Reagan's second landslide was the greatest electoral landslide in modern history and that occurred after his "mistake". That's excellent mileage by any standard.
