glad to be a canadian today

my 8 yr old son suffers attacks of tachycardia from time to time...the attacks are not life threatening, but his heart races at about 300+ beats per minute until he goes to the hospital for an injection

we have been to the hospital about half a dozen times over the years and each time, he has received effective treatment and is back to normal within minutes at no cost to us (other than the emotional aspect)

last night, my son was in hilton head south carolina on a golfing vacation during march break and he suffered an attack....he was taken to the medical centre where he received excellent care and was back to normal within minutes....total bill: US$1,600....fortunately, we carry out of country health care

the point of this post is not to glorify the cdn system or villify the american system, but to use a very real case to indicate the staggering cost of health care....imo, the HMO's will have no choice but to take a serious look at pennsaid as the finanial cost of side effects from the traditional nsaids and cox2 nsaids must be enormous
