Fred, I remember a graph from one of the PC rags (PC Mag? Network Computing?) that plotted Moore's Law. In PC CPU capabilities (Intel/AMD), we are actually above the Moore's Law curve. The whole mad rush to Gigahertz clock speeds last year lifted us above the pure exponential baseline.

I totally agree - I don't think the software (or even wetware) has kept pace with the hardware capabilities. For example, I have never owned a cell phone or pager; for me, the cost/benefit never balanced.
