<<< Well, what do you know, for once the NCAA meant what it said. It said teams
should play tough schedules, and it declined to contradict that message on
Selection Sunday.

Alabama vs. Georgia provided the selection committee with a classic test
case of scheduling philosophy. Alabama won 21 games --- 13 of them against
teams with an RPI worse than 100. Georgia won 16 games --- two of them
against teams with an RPI worse than 100. So against serious opponents ---
those with an RPI of 100 or better --- Alabama won eight games and Georgia
won 14.

Six of Alabama's wins were over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (319 RPI), North Texas
(300), Southeastern Louisiana (291), Grambling (284), Northern Iowa (245) and
Wofford (233). The committee had to take a stand against that. >>>

'Bama seems to have tried the John Thompson method of scheduling. -g-
