Hi Andrew:

>>>Do you have a sense of how a consolidation of the telecommunications industry may affect Amati's prospects. What if GTE gets acquired within the next year?

As you say, this is just a sense. I just saw something about $1 trillion of expenditure for the global telecommunications infrastructure. I think they are right.

Generally consolidation makes investment in this area easier. Although the total $$$s to be spent won't shrink by much on the actual equipment purchases since the same number of people need to be supported, there will be savings in many areas such as sales, customer support, accounting & admin functions including billing systems etc.

Of course mergers are time consuming & can distract management from making timely decisions in technology deployment. However, if once they are over that phase they should be able to make deployment decisions with greater strenght.

As far as specifically impact on Amati... hard to tell. Fewer 'purchasers' may mean fewer 'sellers' IF the purchasers go with a single company's product across their entire customer base.

The question coming from a lawyer has more weight...;)... What's your specialty?
