The current stats are that about 45% of the legals are coming in without health insurance and that 21% of the K-12 in 1997 were immigrant children. Provided that we're spending $ 9000 to $ 15,000 per public school pupil, I doubt they can generate enough tax revenue short-term to offset even those public costs. The immigrant flow fills jobs, tech and un-tech, that would otherwise go unfilled, and pay the SS taxes that are balancing the federal budget. Eventually, these would become liabilities when they grow old. They're probably a short-term boon to the federal govt, but a short-term liability to localities since they require more educational services, transportation, housing, and social welfare.
