Go ahead and hate others because of their culture, or race, or religion, but act out on your hatred and you are going to be seeing four gray walls for a long time. Agree, free speech and thought, but punishment for deeds. OTOH, what type of a message are you sending to our country, and the world, when you say that acts of racial or cultural hatred, against others, are not important enough to enact laws to prevent them? Again you said "acts" so laws are fine. We need free speech and thought. Hate crimes are an issue to some but not sufficient to sacrifice freedom of speech and thought. Maybe I'd consider destroying the Buddhas by the Talibans a hate crime of sorts. There is room to wiggle when an institution propagates hate, rather than an individual.
