If Sweden had ceased to exist 50 years ago, I can't think of a single difference it would have made in my life.
If the U.S. had ceased to exist 50 years ago, we wouldn't have modern aviation, computers, most of the medicines the world relies on, copy machines, and on and on. Europe might still, without the Marshall plan, be recovering from WWII.
