13:24 ET Merrill Lynch on QUALCOMM (QCOM) 52 1/8 +4 1/16 (+8.4%): -- Update -- Company indicated that 22-23 mln CDMA phones were sold in the Dec qtr, up substantially from 15 mln per qtr for the previous 4. Concern raised by Merrill Lynch is whether there are excess phones in inventory. However, firm points out that royalties were based on less than 22 mln phone sales suggesting an adjustment in March, raising confidence that March qtr estimates will be met. QCOM also indicated that plans to spin off semiconductor business by Q4 is on track.
