Gottfried, I suspect many of those whose paper net worth dropped are long term investors who got in thinking that it would be an up and down process that would net them more for retirement. One of the big mutual fund selling points has been that the historic return for stocks is better than any viable alternative, no matter whether you get in at a high or not. I don't know that these paper losses will affect the average investor the way it would the stock option people or those of us who are active traders. I'll guess we'll know if we start getting mutual fund redemptions.

I think there is still a lot of money waiting to get in. This would include the money on the sidelines and a lot of that margin money that is available and not in use. Unless things really unravel, I expect that at the first good sign of an econ recovery the nas stocks will explode upwards, despite all the talk about how people will be more cautious. There's nothing like the thought of being left out of a good thing to bring out the greed.

Bring on the evenings oil news. I have been tempted to buy more mvk and keg all day but have resisted. On a one year time frame I know I should buy but I think I might get a little better entry point. I notice that the projections for keg are still in the 20's. Is anyone except JQP buying any energy?

By the way, JQP I think your decision to sell off some tech was a good one when you made it. It may cost you money short term, but it was a short term gamble that didn't pan out and you had the discipline to bail and wait for a better opportunity. Your calls on the nat gas E+P's were excellent over the last few months. Ed

PS cmgi, the internet incubator, reports after the close. It will be interesting to see what they have to say and whether it will move the market one way or the other.

PSS Nas 2000 as I type. Anyone covering their shorts going into the fed rate cuts?
