Tyson thinks women don't like him Posted at 2:32 a.m. PST Tuesday, March 13, 2001
LANHAM, Md. (AP) -- Mike Tyson, who spent three years in prison on a rape conviction, says he loves women passionately, but ``I don't think they like me.''
His explanation: ``Because I'm real with them and I elicit everything that they hide from the world.''
The former heavyweight champion also philosophizes about love in the April issue of "Sister2Sister," an urban entertainment magazine.
``Listen, we have 8 billion people on this planet, right? And if you ask all 8 billion, they would give you a different definition of love,'' Tyson says.
[LPS5 note: Er...isn't that 5 billion, Mike? Give or take 100 million?]
``I don't know what it is. I know when I use that word it demands the attention that it deserves. You can get somebody's attention when you use that word because everybody wants to be loved.''
Tyson, 34, has long admitted he beat his wife, Robin Givens, during their one-year marriage in the late '80s. He also said in the magazine interview that he and his current wife, Monica, are having difficulty getting along.
Tyson has been in negotiations to fight Lennox Lewis, the reigning World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation champion. But both boxers are signed with competing television networks; Tyson fights on Showtime, while Lewis is on HBO. |
