Pretty pessimistic views, which many agree with lately.
But I disagree with you on VZ and they're only thinking about getting into LD, they haven't done it yet. And I'm sure they will only do it how and when it benefits them. Here in LA, as uin NYC, VZ pretty much dominates. I pay them about $250 a month for phone, DSL and wireless. I like their merger, their new strategy and longterm labor contracts. I'm seeing them gradually dominate even more. I also like the fact that their wireless division will either be spun off or bought for a premium by VOD. And that they're a likely addition to the Dow this year. I bought and sold GTE a number of times over the years and always made solid gains. At 25 PE it was hardly a bubble valuation. But you can disagree. ODn't forget the 3% dividend as well.

On LOR I have read several detailed analyst reports which state the value of their satellites is in the low teens, minus debt = about 9-10 a share. Currently selling below 3 or below a billion market cap. They're running out of cash but don't think there aren't some big boys who'd love those birds at a discount. They're a big piece of the future. It's been a bad investment as I first bought at 5 7/8 down to 3 1/2 but it could back there in a flash if a deal's made. Definitely a dog but the logic for the buy-out is there. And soon. No way they're going to go out of business.

So what are you buying if not VZ at PE 11 or a takeover target at its 52-week low or a dot.bomb with 120% market cap in cash what better values are there going forward?

Maybe I'll agree if you can give me a good one. I know you bought EMC at 30. Great buy. If my cash check had cleared in time I would have joined you. What do you think of ERICY around 6 down from 22 in three months? Or NT at 16? Or COMS at 6? Those are some I'm mulling over. But only on dips.
