IBM Entry Level Intel Servers Make A Power Play
INTERNET WIRE -- IBM today announced increased processing power for its entry level Intel based servers delivering customers one of the most powerful sub-$1000 server in the industry. The eServer x200 is now available with either the Intel (R) 933MHz (1) or 1Ghz Pentium III (R) processor as an optional upgrade; the dual-processor eServer x220 is now offered with the Intel 1Ghz Pentium III processor.
With today's announcement, the x220 builds upon its reputation as a low priced two-way server offering high-availability, robust systems management and ease of use and deployment features. Meanwhile, the x200 is the uniprocessor alternative for less demanding and more price sensitive server roles.
"Customers are looking for performance at a value," said Jim Gargan, vice president, marketing, IBM eServer xSeries. "These reliable and popular servers have been a big hit with small and medium businesses, as well as large enterprise customers with multiple branch locations, which helped IBM capture over three points of Intel server market share in 4Q00." With native support for either Linux® or Microsoft® Windows®, as well as support for additional operating systems, the x200 and x220 give customers the flexibility to choose their operating systems and applications that best meet their needs.
The x200 and x220 are designed to make high availability and business critical reliability affordable for the smallest business and are available to resellers and directly through ibm.com or at 1-888-SHOP-IBM. Servers can be sized and configured on-line, ready for shipment to a VAR or customer.
