Server factory revenues grew to $16.7 billion in the fourth quarter of 2000, up 14 percent from the same period the year before, on shipments of 1.2 million units, up 16 percent, market researchers IDC said Wednesday. For the entire year, the worldwide server market topped $60.2 billion in factory revenue, up 7 percent from 1999, on shipments of about 4.4 million units, up 17 percent. IBM was the top vendor with 27 percent share of worldwide factory revenue in the fourth quarter and 23 percent for the full year. Sun Microsystems, Compaq and Hewlett-Packard followed, with market shares for the fourth quarter and the year in the mid-teens. Dell's share was 6 percent. These top 5 vendors account for almost 80 percent of server factory revenue worldwide, accordint to IDC.
