I find it interesting that people on this thread consider Word 2000 to be just a word processor.

It happens to be a very powerful program that can do desktop publishing, access databases, deal with HTML, launch a number of different out of process servers etc. It is also programmable with VBA.

As I use it many of its features, I often find it sluggish on a dual Celeron 366, especially when my documents have a lot of external links and graphics.

Now, I haven't gone to any length to figure out what the bottleneck is, but with 384 MB of memory and a fast 7200 RPM hard disk, the processor must be a big contributor to the sluggishness.

But of course, Intel investors, whose use of their computer goes only as far as type letters with 2 fingers will not understand.
