IBM is not holding back its spending in new 300M fabs:
IBM Corp., Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and
Toshiba Corp. said Monday they will invest $400 million in
a five-year project to design the new device, called a ''cell''
chip. That research will be done at IBM's Austin, Texas,
facility.

The resulting designs will be brought here for production in
2004 at the new 300-millimeter chip fabricating plant now
under construction at a $2.5 billion cost.
