Compaq released their 4Q earnings warning on December 12th according to the press archives. In fact, I distinctly remember at the end of November CPQ stating that sales were looking good following the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The difference between last quarter and this quarter is that the last week of December is a vacation week so sales is slow. I wouldn't expect to hear any new guidance for a week. Capellas has achieved a good rapport with the Street. I think he would rather be late with more info on outlook than early with wishful thinking - Look what happened to Chambers - he said things about an upbeat second half and got pummeled for it. Both his credibility and his stock price are on the line now. I expect MC wants to be brutally truthful about what he sees because his view will be of the global economy.
