There are something like 60 Focault pendula swinging in the galleries of various museums and other public buildings (one is in the World Trade Center - I've been to one in Griffith Park in LA). Apparently the pendulum changes orientation of its swing by some number of degrees as the shadow passes overhead. As the eclipse passes, it returns to normal. Because the shadow is an artifact of the alignment process of the gravitational masses of the sun and moon, I suspect some sort of gravitational lensing from the moon. Weird!
