Perhaps your interpretation of defensiveness is because as a scientist with two areas of specialty, I see ignorance constantly trying for parity.

I don't think this is good or desirable. Ignorance has done more to harm humans than to benefit them. I won't say that there is no benefit from blissful ignorance. To the contrary, studies have shown that smart people are on average less satisfied than people who aren't so smart.

Perhaps seeing the truth is a bit painful. However, I'm willing to suffer a bit to see the truth. I recommend it because, like exercise, after the pain, there is elation and satisfaction provided by the quest and the treasures thereof.

SO, brees, would you rather your neurosurgeon used ignorance in operating on your brain tumor, or knowledge? Would you prefer he was uncertain, thus careful, or certain and less careful? I think this puts my point in perspective.
