Personal review of Sandra.

Downloaded Sandra and gave it a try this evening.

I chose custom download and did not download shared system files figuring I had more updated files than Sandra offered anyway. All went well during setup but when I tried the performance tuneup wizard all I seemed to gain from it were a bunch of warnings about my drivers being old and that I should check possible upgrades to bios and many other things. I ignored these warnings because I'm not having any problems (other than reaching SI) that I am aware of.

Next I tried the create a report wizard and it hung up (waited several minutes) at the 54% mark. OK...no problem. I figured it might have been because of the initial refusal to download shares system files. I uninstalled through Control Panel.

Reinstalled with choice being typical. Same results..this time hung at 53%. Tried to cancel the info gathering for the report (this worked the first time)but had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to shut Sandra down.

Got my first BSOD in quite a while. Unfortunately I did not write the message down since it was an OE fatal error at such and such with no application specified.

Recovered with reboot, took it out again with no problem. I'll say something for the program...it gathers volumes of info about everything on your machine but I have reservations about how much good it might be able to do for most people. IMO, to the beginner Sandra is worthless. Info-overload but no clear directions as to how to proceed to fix any problems. What info I did see was already available on your machines if you knew where to look. I wish I had taken a screenshot of the testing modules for everyone to see. We are talking info here folks.

To WindowsNT/Win2000 users. According to the readme and help files not all functions are available. The missing functions will be available with the next generation...Samantha. Here's a link to the Sandra compatibility list and FAQs.

ps: If you plan on creating a report and printing it have plenty of paper and ink and some free time.
