Perhaps, if you want a specific incident, it was when the Pope dissuaded Attila from sacking Rome, thus showing the glory of God for the comfort of the afflicted.....

Well, one can interpret as one will. The only one that hallucinated St Peter out of the terror of his primitive supernaturalism was Attila himself. This singular incident hardly outweighs the deaths of the many Christians that were murdered by Attila over his life, does it? Do you see the existence of Attila as the (subtle) "amelioration of evil and promotion of the good" merely on this one incident? Of course, you know the history; What, overall, causes your heart to sing, when you read of the slaughtering caused by this alpha beast? I am still referring (of course) to your original assertion that Providence had used Attila for the promotion of good. I am sure you could have said otherwise, or differently--had you so chosen; So your point was an intentional one--and one which I would be grateful to understand.
