Why would I try to explain the phrase "The Scourge of God" without reference to God? Anyway, I have described myself as an unaffiliated philosophical theist fairly recently. I am not a Deist, that is, I do not think that God set things in motion then held aloof. On the other hand, I am not certain about particular doctrinal claims enough to belong to this or that religion or denomination.

As for Original Sin, I do,in fact, believe that there is an underlying truth to the doctrine. At a minimum, we are wedded to the more primitive, visceral aspect of emotions, which can be at odds with rational evaluation and response. From that perspective, it is possible that Attila was more mired in the bestial than most......
