Vodafone to widen quarterly subscriber reports
NEWBURY, U.K.—Vodafone Group Plc set plans to widen its reporting on quarterly customer numbers, allowing investors to more closely monitor progress and to represent the drivers of revenue growth more comprehensively. Vodafone also is introducing new commercial policies to sustain cash-flow growth.
According to Vodafone, customer numbers that it and other mobile operators report include both active and inactive customers. Inactive customers are those that have not made or received calls in the past three months. According to the company, inactive customers mainly result from prepaid users disposing of original handsets when they upgrade.

Vodafone believes its current figures overstate its active customer base by approximately 9 percent. During January, the company found 94 percent of the contract customer base and 90 percent of the prepaid base were active users, leaving 6 percent of contract customers and 10 percent of prepaid customers inactive.

In the future, Vodafone said it will publish its registered customer numbers within five days of the quarter end and will publish further information on its subsidiaries’ active customer bases within a month of each quarter end. The company will also update investors on key performance indicators including average revenue per user and data percentages.
