It doesn't seem like too much of an extrapolation to suggest that inferior living conditions in the Third World serve to drive extremism. After all, if there is nothing for you in this world, why not go for the next with a "bang".

I think bad conditions do serve to drive extremism. That doesn't mean they justify extremism.

Actually I don't particularly like the world extremism in this context. Extremism isn't inherently wrong it just means that you are far to one side or another on a particular issue. IMO a lot of extremists are wrong about the things that they hold extreme views on, but one can be an extremist without being wrong. You can also hold views far out of the main stream without being violent, or even uncivil.
