I have been thinking about and would like to weigh in with some thoughts and questions on DoCoMo-AWE-iMode.

Every time I've asked myself why would T go in this direction, the first answer I come up with is $10 billion! I expect T would have switched to 1X if Q offered them $10 billion. T is going to get cheap phones from NOK and as limtex says market up a storm for i-Mode. They may not have the technology, but they will have the marketing muscle.

As has been speculated before, this may be one of the reasons for the new 6XXX chip - to give VZ, etc. a way to compete on phone cost while allowing for much greater system capacity and at least the same speed (14.4k).

Also, I read (I think on this thread earlier today) that iMode would be rolled out first in Seattle early next year and then across the country later during 02 into 03. What happens to the grand plans if iMode is a bomb in Seattle?

And one technical question. Am I correct in assuming that i-mode going to run on the GSM system AWE is switching to and not TDMA? Or does iMode it require GPRS?
