Gottfried and thread: I am mulling this one over and need your input. One of the leading indicators of an apparent recovery in this business should be an uptick in the jobs available at these companies. My reasoning here is that things progress quite rapidly once a recovery is underway. The Internet makes it quite possible to keep track of the hiring trends at these companies. I would be willing to do this on a weekly basis and putting up the results if the idea is sound and there is interest.

I am making some assumptions here that may be invalid. a) it is possible that the companies already have the people they need even if there is a turnaround. b) The companies web sites are accurate reflections of their hiring needs (in my industry, you post a job after you have found a candidate).

If this is a workable idea, I'd like to compile a list of the 10 companies to follow and would like everyone's input on the list. The list has to contain large and small companies - I think the small ones will react faster as they probably have had to cut down the most.

Let me know if this has been done already. Any ideas and criticisms welcome.
