Good idea but,

To do what you have suggested, AMD needs more than a 486 processor. They need to provide the total solution which include chipset, motherboards.... All of which Intel already have offered. AST just released a month ago a complete 486 system with monitor, hard drive, modem, and multi-media for under $1000.
