Hi, Cheeky and everyone! This is a great thread. I'm learning a lot by osmosis.
I just ordered a new Dell Inspiron 3800 for an older relative. I got her started on the Internet a couple of years ago with an old laptop of mine. When it died, it was easier to replace it than to fix it.
The Dell is stripped down to the bare bones, as the only thing she will ever do is use America Online. It came to about $1400 with tax, shipping, 128 RAM ("free" special from Dell with 64 RAM machines), and a 3-year service policy (necessary for her IMO, since she lives across the country from me).
Here's my question: the Dell comes with Windows Millennium, which I have heard is unstable. I'm having the laptop shipped to me, so I'll be setting it up, then I'm bringing it out to her in a couple of weeks. So if there's any initial tweaking of the system that I should do, I'd like to know in advance. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!!!
